Yuvraj vows to be fit for T20 World Cup

India all-rounder recovering after battling cancer

India's star all-rounder Yuvraj Singh vowed to regain full fitness in a bid to return to international cricket after recovering from a rare cancer which threatened to derail his career.
The Punjab-based cricketer admitted that fighting cancer was the toughest phase in his life but was determined to put it behind him.
Here in Dubai as brand ambassador of Investors Clinic, India’s leading Realty Services firm, which is participating in the Indian Property Show, Yuvraj was grateful to the support he received froms fans around the world.
“I am delighted to meet media and all my fans in the UAE. I am here to support Investors Clinic as their brand ambassador and am pleased to be associated with such a successful and respected brand.  I wish everyone at Investors clinic to achieve bigger milestones in future. I thank everyone who stood by me during those difficult times. But that phase is over and here I am waiting to play the game again,” said the 30-year-old who has making steady progress on the field.
Asked about his chances of playing the Twenty20 World Cup, Yuvraj said: “I have already been out of the hospital for three months and my body is taking a little bit of time to recover. I am not sure whether I am going to play at the T20 World Cup. All I said was my target is to get fit for the T20 World Cup. Before that I have to play a couple of domestic games.”
The man of the tournament in India's successful World Cup campaign last year, did not rule out a comeback.

“Before the World Cup I had a very bad year with injuries. So it was tough on my body. Battling cancer was something, which I really can’t express. It was the toughest period in my life. I can’t really give a timeframe as to when I would be back. I have to work extra hours and let’s see what I can do. I have the will. I’ve come back in the past and there is no reason why can’t I come back again," said Yuvraj who gained inspiration while reading the book of Lance Armstrong, who won the Tour de France a record seven consecutive times after having survived cancer.

“I read Armstrong’s book ‘It’s not about the bike: My journey back to life’ a couple of years ago and I didn’t complete. May be this is the way I had to come back and read the book again. Lance’s book was definitely an inspiring one. His cancer was much worse than mine and the way he showed the dedication to come back and win the Tour de France seven times in a row was an amazing feat. Rather than a sporting hero he is a real life hero."

Honey Katiyal, CEO, Investors Clinic said: “Two years back in 2010 we took a strategic marketing decision to introduce Yuvraj Singh as our brand ambassador for all our projects in India. And the magic has worked; we have developed long lasting relations with our customers. The brand name ‘Yuvraj’ really helps to connect with our audience as they believe in our services and deliverables. Yuvraj Singh is passionate, exuberant, warm and has fighting spirit and these attributes strengthen and convey our brand image. We want to emulate same magic in UAE. I am really thankful to Yuvraj for taking time for us and coming to UAE to visit our booth at the Indian property Show.”

Yuvraj Singh targeting T-20 world cup in Sri Lanka to make comeback

Yuvraj Singh targeting T-20 world cup in Sri Lanka to make comeback

CHANDIGARH: Cricketer Yuvraj Singh, who underwent treatment for cancer in the US could be back in the cricket field soon.  He has tweeted that he is making good recovery and looking forward to making a comeback. Yuvraj is targeting T-20 world cup in Sri Lanka. He is hopeful of resuming practicing in the nets by July. He would be working strenuously in gym for weight training session.

Dr. Nitesh Rohtagi, doctor of  Yuvraj, 30 said that he could make a full recovery and resume his cricket career. The cricketer was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, called mediastinal seminoma. Rohtagi said that Yuvraj’s  recovery has been fast owing to the fact that sportspersons set high standards of maintaining their fitness levels consistently.G

“Good day today. Got my blood report and scan report!! I'm in good condition!! I'm so happy to lead a normal healthy life, time to celebrate," the batsman tweeted on Monday.Last week, Yuvraj posted pictures of him working out in the gym with fast bowler Ishant Sharma, and said the two had played a four-over tennis ball match.

However, it would not be an easy task for Yuvraj to regain complete fitness and become match-fit for international assignments. He has been a  quality player in one-dayers and T-20 but has not been able to perform creditably in the longer version of the game, Test matches. Though Yuvraj has lot of cricket left in him and could be asset to Indian cricket team especially in one-day internationals and T-20s.

Yuvraj played his last international match in November 2011.The flamboyant left-handed batsman Yuvraj Singh had been instrumental in playing vital role in India winning the 2011 world cup after 28 years. He also holds the world record of hitting six sixes in an over off Stuart Broad in India's 2007 World Twenty20 triumph in South Africa.

Yuvraj Singh says that Cyclist Lance Armstrong has helped him a lot and he was an inspiration in my fight against cancer. He had similar cancer but his was in the last stage and mine was detected at early stage," he said. Yuvraj said his biggest strength was his mother Shabnam.

He said that luckily the cancer got detected early. The presence of my mother gave me strength. I don't think without her I would have made this journey," said Yuvraj. Yuvraj had admitted that he was initially in a denial mode when he was detected with cancer.

Yuvraj likely to play in pre-season tournaments

Yuvraj likely to play in pre-season tournaments

Yuvraj Singh, who has been recovering well after his cancer treatment, is eyeing to play in some of the pre-season tournaments like Moin-ud-Dowla Gold Cup and Buchi Babu Trophy later this year before making a comeback into first class cricket.
“Yuvi's scan report shows that he is nearing complete recovery. For the first two years, the blood tests and scan needs to be done every three months. In the next three years, it will be every five months. He is a little bit weak but his rehab programme at the NCA is going pretty well,” one of Yuvi's close friends told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
Asked about his return to competitive cricket, the source said, “It's difficult to pinpoint a particular date. He might just like to check himself out by playing in one of the Hot Weather tournaments in and around Delhi. But he will definitely play in the Ranji preparatory tournaments down south like the Buchi Babu Trophy or Moin-ud-Dowla Gold Cup.”
The 30-year-old right-handed batsman seemed to be in good frame of mind if his tweets are to go by.
“Good day today Got my blood report and scan report!! I'm in good condition!! I'm so happy to lead a normal healthy life time to celebrate,” Yuvraj had tweeted.
He said he played a short tennis ball cricket with team-mate Ishant Sharma who is also undergoing rehabilitation programme at the NCA.
“Me and ishant playd a 4 over tennis bal match He hit me for 6 sixes but I won the game by hitting the 7th six of his last bal Hard luk ishi,” Yuvraj had tweeted on June 1.

Yuvraj nears full fitness

Yuvraj nears full fitness, set to play again soon

  • NEW DELHI: Here's some good news for Yuvraj Singh fans. The 2011 World Cup's 'player of the tournament' is likely to return to the cricket field very soon as the latest CT scan of his chest has revealed that the 'scarring tissue' close to his lungs is almost gone.
According to sources close to the cricketer, the scan report came on Monday morning and the entire family is elated with the news.
The last CT scan on Yuvraj was conducted by Dr Ion Horn three months ago in the US and the recent scan shows considerable improvement.
Yuvraj spent around five days at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore last week, where his fitness was assessed by the medical team of the cricket board. He is expected to rejoin the NCA for more fitness drills.
Most importantly, he has already started batting and even took part in a four-an-over match against Ishant Sharma, who is also going through fitness drills at the NCA after his ankle surgery.
Sources said that Yuvraj batted and bowled in this short match and even smashed seven sixes against Ishant's bowling. "This was the first match Yuvraj was playing after his treatment. He is feeling better now and will be fit to play for India soon," sources said.
It was also revealed that Yuvraj has been regular with his yoga sessions and is also working hard at the gym. "He is nearing full fitness and should be ready for the grind in a month's time," the source said.

Yuvraj singh Twenty20 IPL career

Twenty20 career

On 19 September 2007 against England in the ICC World Twenty20 Super 8 match held at Kingsmead in Durban, he hit 6 'SIXES' in an over up against Stuart Broad. This helped him to reach the fastest fifty ever in Twenty20 game, off just 12 balls and also the fastest in any form of international cricket. This was the fourth time that six sixes had been hit in one over in senior cricket, the first time in Twenty20 cricket, and the first time in any form of international cricket against a bowler from a Test playing nation. He has also hit the longest six of the tournament: 119 metres (390 ft) off of Australian bowler Brett Lee.[citation needed] Yuvraj was awarded a Porsche 911 for his 6 sixes achievement by the Vice President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Lalit Modi. Yuvraj also received Rs.10,000,000 (US$252,716) in cash from the BCCI for his performance in the tournament. He is also the first Indian player to cross 100 Sixes in Twenty 20 matches.
Yuvraj also scored 70 runs off 30 balls and went on to claim the Man of the Match against Australia in the World Twenty20 semifinals at Durban.
He was the icon player and captain for Indian Premier League (IPL) team Kings XI Punjab in the first two seasons; in 2010, the third season, icon player status was abolished and the captaincy given to Kumar Sangakkara. They came second in the round robin phase of the tournament, but lost their semi-final to the Chennai Super Kings. On 1 May 2009, Yuvraj picked up his first hat-trick in T20 cricket againstRoyal Challengers Bangalore at Kingsmead in Durban, the same ground where he hit his six sixes. He dismissed Robin UthappaMark Boucher and Jacques Kallis. On 17 May 2009, Yuvraj picked up his second Twenty20 hat-trick against Deccan Chargers at theWanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. Yuvraj dismissed Herschelle GibbsAndrew Symonds and Venugopal Rao.
The Pune Warriors were a new team introduced for the 2011 IPL. Yuvraj Singh was bought by the team and chosen as captain.[17] Pune Warriors finished ninth, ahead of only the Delhi Daredevils. From 14 matches, Yuvraj scored 343 runs at an average of 34.30, including two half-centuries.[ After much controversy BCCI has allowed Pune Warriors to have his replacement for 2012 Indian Premier League, citing his medical condition and nonavailability for 2012 IPL due to the same.

Yuvraj singh Test career

Test career

An innings-by-innings breakdown of Yuvraj's Test match batting career up to February 2008, showing runs scored (red bars) and the average of the last ten innings (blue line).

Yuvraj made his Test debut against New Zealand in Mohali in late 2003 in front of his home crowd in Punjab due to the absence of regular captain Sourav Ganguly. He was omitted upon Ganguly's return but got another opportunity in the Test team in the 2004 Tour to Pakistan, when Ganguly was again injured. He scored his first Test century in a losing effort against Pakistan in the second Test at Lahore. When Ganguly returned for the third Test, Akash Chopra was dropped and it appeared that the Indian selectors wanted to give him a regular place in the team. He was subsequently played as Virender Sehwag's opening partner,
but after two poor matches in the Border-Gavaskar Trophyagainst Australia, he was dropped in favour of Gautam Gambhir. He was recalled to the Test team, batting in the No. 6 position for the away series against Zimbabwe in August 2005 after Sachin Tendulkar was sidelined with tennis elbow. He then retained his position in the Test team after Ganguly was axed following a row with coach Greg Chappell. He scored a second Test century in the third and final Test in Pakistan in the series in January 2006, which India again lost. However, Yuvraj has struggled subsequently in 2006, failing to pass 50 in six Tests against England (two, both at home) and the West Indies (four, all away from home). His injury in late 2006 allowed the return of former captain Ganguly to the team, who subsequently top-scored in the series.
Yuvraj was included in India's Test squad to face Pakistan in November 2007, but was not included in the playing 11 for the first test. Yuvraj was picked in the 3rd Test due to an injured Sachin Tendulkar. India were 61/4 before he and Sourav Ganguly made a 300 run partnership with Yuvraj recording his highest Test score of 169. He had a very poor Test series against Australia when India toured in 2007–08. After his poor showing in the first two Tests he was dropped for the remainder of the series. Yuvraj scored 85 not out and put on an unbroken partnership of 163 withSachin Tendulkar to defeat England in the First Test at Chennai on 15 December 2008. It was the fourth highest successful run chase in history and the highest in India.
Yuvraj has taken a number of important wickets with his left-arm spin. Two "soft" dismissals of Kevin Pietersen in 2008, led to controversy. Pietersen, then the England captain, "labelled Yuvraj a "pie-chucker" and suggested that he was a purveyor of "left-arm filth".
